CO2 Balance Made Easy
What we are asking people to be doing in the Community is something that could help to Stop Global Warming, and to Save the Earth.
We do support the Paris 4 in 1000 Initiative for Carbon Sequestration, which will give us another 100 years to get into a much more Naturally Well Balanced Relationship with our CO2, if the Farmers of the World will all start increasing the Carbon Content of their Soils by 4 parts per 1000, each year. And that is not too much to expect.
Our Pledge is to go Two and a Half Times More and to increase the Living Carbon Content in our own Soils by a full One Percent per year, or 10 parts per 1000, and not just 4, using Regenerative Farming Practices, along with Tree Planting, and Forest Protection, and we plan to do this year after year, each year, and every year, over the next 100 years, which is 2.5 times more than the 4 parts per 1000 rate that is being called for in Paris, to Save the Earth, which will be doing more than our own fair share to start putting a Stop to Global Warming. Yes. We can start right here, on our own Local Farms, and within our own Local Neighborhoods, and right here in our own Local EcoVillage Community.
And much of that Excess Carbon has come from the Soil. But let's take a look at the Math.
The amount of Carbon in the Soil is down Two-Thirds, from what it once was. Right. Only One-Third of that Carbon is still going back into the Soil. And so most of it is gone. There are One Trillion and a Half Tons of Carbon still in the Soil today. That is 1500 Billion Tons.
That is the One-Third that we are talking about. And so there is plenty of room for another 3 Trillion Tons of Carbon to go back into the Soil, and that would simply Restore the Normal amounts of Carbon Back into the Soil that really should be in the Soil. That is room for 3000 Billion Tons.
The amount of Excess Carbon going into the Atmosphere every year, mainly because of Consumerism and Over-Population, which is a deadly combination, is only 4.3 Billion Tons per year. And so when you compare the 4.3 Billion Tons of Carbon, we have to get rid of, to the 3000 Billion Tons of Carbon, we have room for because of the Missing TopSoil, then it becomes obvious that we need to start putting a lot of Carbon into the ground fast. And that is just talking about Historic Levels, of Organic Materials in the Soils. But we can even take it a lot farther than that. And we will be doing that.
That massive Excess of Carbon can easily be sponged up by the soil, which is like a very Deep Tank that is only partly filled, and there is room enough in the soil for another 1000 years, at the rate of 4.3 Billion tons more per year.
The Soil would be the most appropriate place to put that Carbon, into our Soils, where it can do the most good, in the form of Compost, and in the form of Bio-Char.
But Our Soils have held a lot more Carbon in the past, with more Forests, more Duff, and more Humus in the Soil, and it can be restored all the way back to that level, and then some, and will still hold a lot more, so this would be a winning strategy, and very simple and straight forwards Solution, which can be done, by the People, without any Government Interference.
How much more Carbon can it hold? 3 or 4 Times as much? No. It can easily hold Ten Times as much, or even One Hundred Times as much. And that means we have an easy way to Stop Global Warming, in a way, which would be Painless. And this will serve 2 Purposes. We can Restore our Soil Health all the way Back to Normal and Beyond, while at the same time, we can put a halt, to Global Warming, by Stabilizing CO2 levels. But there may be some Other Changes we need to make as well.
We may need to Stop Playing with the Crazy Dragon of OverPopulation, and for that we need to make it clear that the Buck Stops right here on the Local Level, no with the Con-Man Politicians. Why? That would just give them more power, which they can leverage to Stay in Office. This can be done without the Politicians. How? On a Grassroots Level. Right. The Farmers of the world can make this happen.
But Population needs to be Controlled on every level, in the Home, on the Farm, in Our Communities, in Our Towns, in our Watersheds, and in our EcoRegions. And that is why the number of Homesteads in our EcoVillage Communities will have to be Limited, and that is why the Number of People who can live within each Homestead will have to be Limited, as well as the number of New People who can be Admitted into our Watersheds, and into our EcoRegions, so that we will be doing our part, to stop the Spread of the Vectors of OverPopulation.
And this can all be done without having to resort to the Con-Man Politicians, which would only inflate their power. Right. Our Demands for Action from the Con-Man Politicians, only Enriches their Power, because they can Repackage those up for Resale.
This might be a good time to make a Gentle Switch back to Restorative Levels of Living Organic Carbon Content, and Organic Farming Practices, which means we may have to Watch the Salts, Eat Right, and get enough Exercise. Right.
And it means we will be putting more Composted Organic Material right back into the Soil than we take out, and when that breaks down over many years it provides a steady supply of Healthy and Desirable levels of CO2 into our Soils, which can reach very high levels, and then they are taken up by the Plant Roots, and are used to build Carbon Chains, like Cellulose. And that is the best place for CO2 to go in our world, because our Soils really do need to be replenished with Organic Matter.
Another thing we can do is to incorporate Bio-Char into our Soils, and entirely new forms of farm machinery could be invented which would stuff plugs of Biochar into our Farmlands all around the world. And that would be a good way to sequester Carbon into our Soils, where it will stay put for maybe 100 years, because the BioChar is very stable, and it doesn't break down for a very long time. And so it has a long life, and it does provide a service, as Housing for Microbes, and maybe as a bit of a Key-Lator, which means it will hold nutrients in the soil which otherwise might find anything to get attached to. - T
